Around the world, millions of people in Africa walk an average of six kilometers every single day just to collect their daily drinking water. And unlike in the U.S., the water collected in Africa often comes from unprotected rivers, lakes, ponds and watering holes. It can carry the waterborne diseases which are among the leading causes of illness and death in Africa – especially among children.

Water Wells: Building A Better Future

On May 21, 2023, Embrace Relief will be doing just that! Our second annual H₂Ow Far Can You Walk: 5K Walk-a-Thon at Liberty State Park in Jersey City will raise money for Embrace Relief’s Clean Water Initiative and Fountains of Hope project, which have built and reconstructed more than 760 water wells in Africa to date.

These wells have brought a convenient, safe, and stable supply of clean water to more than 760,000 people, improving health, allowing women and children to achieve their potential, and giving communities the chance to develop and thrive over the long term.
