CARACAS, 25 June 2026 – Rescue teams are racing to reach people trapped beneath collapsed buildings after back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela, causing widespread destruction and forcing children and families from their homes. Reports indicate that the earthquakes, measured at 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, damaged buildings in Caracas and the coastal region of La Guaira, disrupted power and communications, and left many families searching for missing loved ones.
The full scale of the destruction is still emerging. Early reports say at least 500 people have been killed, nearly 3,000 injured, and thousands reported missing, while aftershocks continue to create fear and uncertainty for families already displaced from their homes.
Many survivors have moved into streets, plazas, and open spaces, afraid to return to damaged buildings. Children and vulnerable families are now in urgent need of clean water, food, medical supplies, hygiene kits, blankets, clothing, and temporary shelter.
