The ongoing crisis of worldwide hunger is a concern all year round, but it’s particularly poignant during the month of Ramadan. An important tradition of Ramadan is fasting, abstaining from eating and drinking to provide space for self-reflection. Anyone who refrains from eating for most of their day can understand what it means to be hungry, how a lack of food can drain physical energy and mental spirit. For millions around the world, this is a daily, unavoidable reality. In Yemen, widespread hunger due to the ongoing civil conflict has had an incredibly tragic impact on millions of lives.
Yemen is the site of an eight-year conflict resulting in nearly 250,000 deaths and the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. More than half of the Yemeni population faces acute food insecurity, and millions struggle to meet basic needs, with hundreds of thousands of children living with malnutrition. Conflict and instability has forced the displacement of more than 4 million Yemenis, including 1.5 million children. Attacks on infrastructure and medical facilities have had dire consequences even for those fortunate enough to avoid hunger or displacement: millions go without clean water or sanitation – outbreaks of cholera throughout the country have occurred at times since 2017 – while overstressed health care facilities are at risk of collapse under the stresses of COVID-19. With the conflict continuing, the situation grows more and more desperate for millions of at-risk Yemenis.
Embrace Relief delivered food packages to more than 1,100 families in Yemen in 2021, and has provided help to nearly 2,000 families in Yemen since 2020. The magnitude of the crisis in Yemen means that there is an enormous amount of work still to do, and we need your help to do it. In the spirit of Ramadan, we humbly invite you to consider making a donation of any amount, big or small—every bit counts—to help us continue to ease the hunger of thousands in need.
Every food package goes directly to a family in need, benefitting their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. We at Embrace Relief thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, understanding, and generosity.
