Clean water is fundamental to humanity, helping us grow the food we eat and keeping harmful bacteria and viruses away. We often take water for granted: for most of us, the nearest clean water source is only a few steps away. But for millions of people around the world, and especially those living in rural areas of Africa, clean water is a luxury. More than 300 million people in Africa get their water from unprotected lakes, rivers, ponds and watering holes, leaving them at risk of dangerous diseases and shorter lives.

To address this critical need, students from the Sky Academy will look to make a difference for thousands of people this summer by opening water wells in Tanzania! Academy students in grades 9-12 are planning to open at least two water wells in partnership with Embrace Relief, and will make two weeklong trips to visit the well, take part in opening ceremonies, and connect with the local people who will benefit from this project.

A boys’ student group will visit from August 2-10, 2024, while a girls’ student group will spend the week of August 10-18. Both groups will be joined by 2-3 experienced mentors, and these trips will be conducted with a strong emphasis on safety, leadership development, and cultural sensitivity.

We have set a fundraising goal for this campaign of $8,000. Reaching this goal will enable Sky Academy students to open at least two water wells, providing life-saving clean water to a minimum of 2,000 people in rural Tanzania.
