A powerful earthquake struck Afghanistan early Wednesday morning, June 22, killing at least 1,000 people and injuring more than 1,500. The earthquake is the deadliest to hit Afghanistan in more than two decades, and comes at a time when the war-torn country is facing an economic crisis and a severe food shortage.
