Embrace Relief to Distribute FMSC MannaPack® Meals to Communities Facing Hunger in Karamoja, Uganda
Uganda’s Karamoja sub-region is facing a severe hunger crisis due to prolonged drought, failed rains, crop losses, and depleted household food reserves. As a result, hundreds of thousands lack reliable access to adequate food.
Humanitarian assessments estimate that about 473,000 people, nearly one-third of Karamoja’s population, are experiencing acute food insecurity. Of these, approximately 41,000 face emergency-level conditions. Those most in need include children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, older adults, persons with disabilities, women-led households, and families who have lost crops or livestock.
In a July 9, 2026 press statement, Uganda’s Office of the Prime Minister confirmed that prolonged drought caused crop failure and food shortages in Karamoja. The government began emergency food deliveries and identified Kaabong, Kotido, Amudat, Napak, Moroto, and nearby districts as requiring urgent assistance.
Embrace Relief’s First Uganda Distribution of FMSC MannaPack® Meals
To address this urgent need, Embrace Relief will distribute its first food container in the Karamoja region.
The container holds approximately 276,000 MannaPack® meals, produced by FMSC and distributed by Embrace Relief in Uganda.
Distribution will be coordinated with local partners and Ugandan authorities to ensure aid reaches those facing the most severe shortages. Priority will go to vulnerable households, including families with children, older adults, persons with disabilities, women-led households, and those who have exhausted their food reserves.
This shipment is part of Embrace Relief’s expanding international food assistance program, which coordinates the transport and distribution of FMSC-produced MannaPack® meals to communities facing hunger and food insecurity.

Emergency food assistance is vital to help families meet immediate nutritional needs as they recover from crop losses and await better growing conditions.
The crisis in Karamoja underscores the need for sustainable, long-term solutions such as clean water infrastructure, drought-resistant agriculture, climate-resilient food systems, and livelihood development.
