Embrace Relief’s Mobile Farmers Market is a unique fresh produce distribution program that gives us the mobility and power to deliver healthy fruits and vegetables to under-resourced individuals and families in northern New Jersey. Shockingly, there are more than 50 food deserts in the state, according to the New Jersey Economic Development Agency. A food desert is an area where people do not have access to affordable, nutritious, healthy food for several reasons, including economic instability, the closing of food stores and supermarkets, lack of transportation, and other socio-economic factors, leading to chronic food and nutrition insecurity.

Since 2021, Embrace Relief has held eight food distribution events with its Mobile Market truck, giving 1,075 families the nutritious food they need, as well as important household supplies. The following breaks down each year of Embrace Relief’s activity, along with a description of each distribution event:

2021

  • In 2021, Embrace Relief held four food-distribution events with its Mobile Market truck, providing food and household supplies for 470 families in need in Bergen and Essex County, New Jersey. Each Mobile Market package provided the following items:
    • Food: A USDA-inspected frozen meat package, pasta, green beans, corn, tuna, chickpeas, kidney beans, Oreo cookies, juice boxes and bottles, ketchup, vegetable oil, and honey.
    • Supplies: Hand sanitizer, antibacterial wipes, baby wipes, disinfecting wipes, toilet paper and paper towels.

2022

  • In 2022, Embrace Relief’s Mobile Market truck delivered food to 450 families in Passaic County, New Jersey, across three events. Each Mobile Market package provided the following items:
    • Food: Pasta, green beans, corn, tuna, chickpeas, kidney beans, ketchup, vegetable oil, honey, and Oreo cookies.
    • Supplies: Paper towels, toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, and mouthwash, soap, disinfecting wipes, and face masks.

2023

  • We held our first Mobile Market food distribution of 2023 on April 2 and provided aid for 175 families, with more to come in the future. Each package distributed at our 2023 distribution events contained the following items:
    • Food: Pasta, green beans, corn, tuna, chickpeas, kidney beans, Oreo cookies, ketchup, vegetable oil, and honey.
    • Supplies: Toothbrush, face masks, antibacterial hand wipes.
