Mindu, Tanzania, is one such community.
A village of approximately 15,000 people located about 200 kilometers west of Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam, the demand for clean water here is high. But finding a safe and accessible source is a constant challenge for residents. Their nearest reliable source for water is a hand-dug shallow well, approximately 5 kilometers away, which is usually only available during the 2-3 month rainy season. During dry seasons, they have to make do with unprotected rainwater often containing dangerous bacteria, putting residents at risk for deadly waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid.
Building sturdy, reliable water wells will solve these problems and bring peace, good health, and prosperity to the people of Mindu. That’s why Embrace Relief, in coordination with its local partners, plans to build 15 water wells located throughout Mindu to provide all 15,000 residents with safe, clean drinking water. Once it is completed, this is a project that will transform Mindu and its surrounding communities for years to come.
