Aside from boosting graduation rates, GradPlus was designed to increase interest in post-secondary education pathways, whether the individual students intend to attend college or vocational training. To that end, the program will prepare students for the SAT or TABE tests in twice weekly, after-school sessions at the participating school.
Improving the outlook for at-risk students is a collaborative effort, requiring the close coordination of a number of diverse agencies and organizations. This is why GradPlus also offers students guidance from members of the FBI Newark Citizens Academy Alumni Association, Passaic County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Paterson Police Department and the United Nations. These members serve as role models, reinforcing constructive behaviors and dedication to the program.
More than half of the world’s students do not meet minimum proficiency in reading and mathematics. As such, the UN notes that new, concentrated efforts must be made in order to realize the fourth of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Quality Education. That is precisely the function of GradPlus, which is closely aligned with ensuring inclusive and equitable quality and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, as outlined by the SDGs.
Over 200 students have enrolled in GradPlus, demonstrating a clear desire to achieve brighter futures for themselves and their families. Provided the necessary skills as well as increased confidence, these students can excel in all areas of their development and a greater potential to succeed on their terms.

Naturally, these gains reach NGOs too, stemming from the formation of corporate partnerships and all that such collaborations entail. NGOs receive varied sources of revenue including corporate contributions and corporate gift-matching programs. Additionally, after corporate partnerships are established, NGOs often see an influx of volunteers who are employed by their corporate partners. These increased resources – human and financial – result in greater social impact, enhanced idea generation, and the means to implement them.
Ideally, nonprofit organizations will be given relative autonomy, acting as a conduit for corporations’ aid. One such example is the partnership between Chiquita Banana and the Rainforest Alliance, a relationship which began in 1992. Once notorious for clear-cutting forests, polluting waterways, and exposing workers to dangerous agrochemicals, Chiquita has since been certified as “sustainable” according to the rigorous social criteria established by the Rainforest Alliance. As a result of this partnership, they have saved 10.868 million acres of rainforest from destruction. Maintaining those tracts is equivalent to removing the annual emissions of 351,536 cars. Additionally, Chiquita’s workers now receive a living wage, relative autonomy in the workplace, and an education in green management, an effort to ensure a sustainable livelihood for employees.
Embrace Relief aligns itself with the principles outlined by the UN’s Global Compact, which unites a diverse body of UN agencies, governments, civil and labor organizations. In furtherance of its principles – comprising human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption, among others – the Global Compact seeks widespread adoption of these practices within the business world, in order to effect greater support for its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Entirely voluntary, over 4,100 companies in more than 100 countries adhere to the initiative. To learn more, please visit www.unglobalcompact.org.
It should be noted that many companies with robust CSR strategies experience a marked increase in profits after implementation. But whatever the motives behind adoption, such policies cause companies to develop “consciences,” leading to increased efficiency, less waste, and greater quality of life for customers, employees, and the communities in which the companies conduct business, especially when allied with NGOs. When acting in the best interests of society by implementing effective, strategic, and sustainable CSR policies, everyone gains.

Everyday, millions of orphans are prone to the cruel madness of this world. Being the hope for the future, they deserve a safe and sound childhood that can prepare them for adulthood. Yet unfortunately, many orphans in Tanzania is left to fend for themselves, facing great difficulties in their daily lives such as finding food, water, and shelter. Absolutely no child should be worried about these basic necessities and rights of life.
Amani Children’s Home has welcomed these little souls since 2001, with warm smiles and open arms, prepared to give them a new-found hope in living a happy and healthy life.
Embrace Relief, along with our partners from CORE Educational Services and Time To Help Foundation: Tanzania, are providing support for Amani Orphanage to renovate their facilities to improve functionality and comfort.
Amani Children’s Home provides a safe and nurturing environment, as well as a formal education to every vulnerable orphan who enters through their doors seeking help. Together, we are building a more stable foundation for the future for Tanzania, but we need your help to complete the orphanage’s construction, including a dormitory for boys.
Please help these children grow into confident, independent adults by making a donation. An investment in these children’s future is an investment in Tanzania’s future.
It is a sad and somber truth that everyday, millions of orphans are left to fend for themselves against the cruel madness of this world. They must fight daily to find food, water, and shelter. This endless struggle can seem overwhelming and convince them to believe that no one will ever care for them, or see them for who they really are: A child who just wants to play, laugh, and be loved.
Fortunately, the Amani Children’s Home located in Moshi, Tanzania, is a safe haven where they will be welcomed with open arms and a genuine smile. Amani Orphanage has been in service since 2001 and has housed hundreds of children with a warm and safe place to sleep at night. Although, after many years of wear and tear, it needed some tender love and care.

Thanks to the gracious donations and our partnerships with Time to Help Foundation: Tanzania and CORE Educational Services, we have been able to complete construction on a totally renovated children’s home. From June 15th to August 15th, people have worked tirelessly to make this a possibility. Now bright and shining once again, Amani Children’s Home can continue their work by providing vulnerable orphans with food, water, safe shelter, and a formal education.
When a child walks through their doors, they know they will be well-taken care of and will be safe because they know they are with people who care about them. This new and improved orphanage will help these children become independent and self-sufficient young adults. Having had a rough start to their childhood, they will end it with comfort and confidence knowing that they have been provided the tools to take on the next chapter of their life.

Although we have collected many donations, there is still work to be done. With continued support, Amani Children’s Home will be able to function at full efficiency and will continue to change the life of every child who walks through their doors.
Please help these children grow into confident, independent adults by making a donation. An investment in these children’s future is an investment in Tanzania’s future.
