Giving during Ramadan

Ramadan is about more than fasting from sunrise to sunset for a full month. It’s also a very important time for Muslims around the world to give to charity and help their fellow man.

Zakat, the act of charitable giving, is one of the pillars of Islamic belief. Each donation of one’s surplus food or money represents a purification of the soul. During this holy month, each gift to the needy provides an even greater spiritual reward, while also providing a Ramadan blessing to someone less fortunate.

Donating food is a particularly great way to help out during the holiday. The daylong fast that Muslims undertake throughout Ramadan is just a small reminder of the suffering that hundreds of millions of people live with during the other 11 months of the year.

Despite the progress we’ve made over the past several decades, there are still many people going to bed hungry every night all around the world. An estimated 800 million people on Earth – that’s one out of every 10 people – did not have enough food to eat during 2021.

Embrace Relief has made it a core part of its mission to directly provide food to people in numerous countries where it is very badly needed, especially during Ramadan. We have:

  • Provided 1.5 million pounds of food, serving more than 1.1 million people;
  • Served people in more than 50 countries, including Greece, Yemen, Tanzania, Kenya, India, the United States, and more;
  • Delivered food packages and hot meals to 100,000 people since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
  • Helped out at home, providing for more than 2,000 of our neighbors in New Jersey through local food markets.

 Help feed people in need with Embrace Relief

Every food package donated makes a real difference in the life of a real person somewhere in the world. Whether or not you observe the holiday, Ramadan should be a time for all of us to consider, reflect, and share our abundance with our fellow human beings. And there’s no better time than now to help.

Our International Hunger Relief Campaign: Ramadan 2021 delivered food packages to more than 30,000 people across 12 countries, including more than 1,300 in Greece, more than 1,100 in Yemen, and hundreds more families in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. We also helped out locally, delivering food to 900 neighboring families in New Jersey.

For our International Hunger Relief Campaign 2022, we’re doing even more, and your support is making it all possible. Donating any amount of money will make a difference – the amounts below represent the cost of one food package that will feed a family for one week:

So please, donate today. Every contribution you make helps one more family go to bed on a full stomach, and brings us one small step closer to ending world hunger.
