Year-End Giving 2018

As 2018 comes to a close, we want to express our deep gratitude for your dedication to Embrace Relief. Your gracious donations this year have helped Embrace Relief move forward with its mission to save lives all over the globe, one day at a time. You have helped us restore lives, place smiles on the faces of many, and make the world a better place each and every day.

One of the flash campaigns of this year was the refugee families in Greece campaign. As you are well aware, thousands of refugees fleeing persecution at home have been trying to find a safe haven in Greece. Unfortunately, some of them have lost their lives during treacherous journeys, and the ones who finally made it find it hard to survive in a new country with no financial resources. As part of the refugee relief campaign, Embrace Relief has helped many of those families stand on their feet again with monthly stipends.

Another big project of the year was the food distribution in Yemen. According to the UN, the situation in Yemen is the world’s worst man-made humanitarian disaster with 8.4 million people considered at risk of starvation. We have been delivering essential food items (flour, rice, sugar, and oil) to vulnerable families mainly in the capital city of Sana’a, and thousands of families in Yemen have received Embrace Relief food packages already. Both of these campaigns will continue in 2019 as well. On top of them, our regular campaigns (disaster relief, clean water, children, education, health and women’s empowerment projects) will continue as usual.

Throughout the year, we have been asking donations for our various campaigns, but this time we are asking for your support directly to Embrace Relief so we can continue our operations. Remember: Only with your support can Embrace Relief continue its vital work! As you consider your year-end charitable contributions, we ask you to please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to enable the continuation of our work for the upcoming year. You can use this donation for your 2018 tax returns, as long as it is made before December 31! Also, you can support Embrace Relief by donating stocks for the first time this year.

Many thanks again for your commitment to Embrace Relief and warmest wishes for the holidays!

#Giving Tuesday 2018

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Remember: Only with your support can Embrace Relief continue its vital work! Whether it’s distributing food packs in hunger-stricken Yemen or providing sustenance to refugee families, giving cataract patients their eyesight back or supplying clean water to communities in need, Embrace Relief depends solely on its supporters’ contribution for its operations, and this #GivingTuesday is a golden opportunity to help the causes you like.

California Fires

2018 has been a catastrophic year for California with several wildfires, but the most recent three have been the most destructive: As a result of Camp Fire affecting the northern part of the state and Woolsey and Hill scorching Southern California, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and thousands of homes have been destroyed. The Camp Fire has turned into the most destructive fire in the state’s history and is responsible for the death of 29 people, has already burned more than 110,000 acres and is only about 25 percent contained. Another 88,000 acres have been scorched in Southern California by the two fires called the Woolsey and Hill. Statewide, about 149,000 are still under orders to leave their homes.

Children and Women’s Empowerment

Today’s society is evolving at an incredible pace. None of this would be possible without men and women both equally contributing knowledge and efforts to push society forward. It starts with children, which is why all children need to be in a position where they can grow and succeed. Many children and women are at a disadvantage in today’s society. Children are struggling to obtain sustainable food, shelter, and education. Women are struggling to have equal opportunities as men to succeed. Entire nations, businesses, communities, and groups can benefit from the implementation of programs and policies that adopt the notion of women empowerment. Empowerment of women is a necessity for the very development of a society since it enhances both the quality and the quantity of human resources available for development (Geojournal). This shift in culture is necessary for us to continue to strive and prosper on a local, national, and global scale. We need children to be well-nourished and healthy so they can thrive in school and feel safe and secure. According to the “World Bank” extreme poverty is living off of $1.25 or less a day. One billion children are living in poverty right now Education is crucial for the development of children and to escape poverty, all of its children need to have access to a decent education. Every child has the right to equal opportunities in life, however, children in many countries must succumb to the vicious cycle of poverty and it is transmitted from generation to generation, threatening their childhood and future. Because of their place of birth, race, ethnicity, and gender, many children are deprived of these rights. Extreme poverty is destroying the lives of many children and it is forcing them to give up their childhood. Together we can give children a sustainable life with quality shelter and education. At Embrace Relief, one of our many goals is to put children and their needs first. Many of our projects include supporting orphanages, education, and healthcare because we strive to develop projects that adapt to the different needs of individuals; especially children. We strive to improve the lives of children by creating lasting change and we work to be their philanthropic bridge.

Wheels for Refugees

Just like refugees everywhere, refugees coming to the US often end up here with not enough means to start a new life – just happy enough to flee from the oppression and troubles in their home country. One of the important challenges many refugees face when they come to the US is the need for a car. Many of them need to start working ASAP to be able to provide for their families, yet in a lot of cases, it’s almost impossible for a newcomer to become a part of the workforce without a vehicle since public transportation is either not available or not enough everywhere. And not being able to afford to buy a vehicle, a lot of these refugees find themselves in the middle of a vicious cycle.

To address this issue, as a continuation of our previous Embrace the Newcomers campaign, we’re launching a new fundraiser in partnership with Global Business Council (GBC) to donate vehicles for these newcomers. GBC was founded as a self-supporting non-profit organization in New Jersey by a group of businessmen and professionals to facilitate commerce between the US and Turkic Countries and to establish partnerships between Turkic and American Businessmen. This joint fundraiser specifically aims to provide vehicles for refugees who desperately need a car to make a living and cannot afford it. Your contribution will help them to get on a path to self-sufficiency.
