Supporting Higher Education in Pakistan

Affording quality higher education in Pakistan is difficult for many students since all the qualified and credible institutions are located in major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar with high tuitions and pricey living costs. There are bright students from low-income rural areas who are admitted into these universities in the big cities, but mostly their families cannot afford to support their education with their average monthly income of 15,000 Pakistani Rupee in rural areas (approximately $115). Even when these students are enrolled for the school, they cannot find affordable boarding because most of these institutions do not provide hostel facilities. So hopelessly they look for private hostels with high monthly rates. These students highly need financial support and a comfortable environment for their studies to be carried on. Two Pakistani charities, Shibli Trust and Vizdom Trust strive to provide a peaceful environment and financial support to these helpless students with boarding and scholarships. Their boarding package includes quality meals three times a day, silent study rooms, high-speed internet access, and monthly academic and recreational events.
In cooperation with these two associations, Embrace Relief volunteers from the Midwest Region are launching a new fundraiser to help Pakistani students in need with their school and boarding expenses and asking for your contribution to their project.

Public Announcement about Embrace Relief Medical Center in Haiti

To all our donors and to the Haitian Public and the Government:
Embrace Relief has been working to operate a hospital in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti, for more than one year, but has experienced several problems with obtaining imperative paperwork and waiting for crucial materials to operate the hospital. Although we have done everything possible to make this project a success, we cannot continue to fulfill our obligations due to the problems we have faced. Therefore, Embrace Relief decided to end our medical center project in Haiti. Our Efforts:
  • Embrace Relief prepared a new webpage for the Haiti Hospital Project along with 3D drawings and a leaflet explaining the project.
  • Signed an agreement with Project Cure (a member of InterAction) for all medical equipment and worked with doctors to finalize the list of equipment.
  • Contacted the Minister of Health of Haiti to sign a protocol to operate the hospital and get customs clearance. We received verbal confirmation, but we did not receive any written documentation.
  • We have had a bad experience in the past with the Minister of Health due to the fact that they could not get our relief items from customs. We had to abandon one container full of medical items in customs because we had waited for customs clearance for 6 months and eventually they expired.
  • We agreed to work with MedShare to have them supply medicine for the hospital.
  • We sent doctors to analyze the country’s health problems.
  • Embrace Relief hired an advisor to help solve the problems that we had experienced while attempting to operate the hospital to no avail. He was unable to help us in the 5 months we worked with him.
  • Embrace Relief applied to USAID twice, but due to recent grant cuts, we were unable to get the money we needed to continue with the Hospital Project.
From our part, we have prepared the necessary essentials, partnered with other organizations, and attempted to organize trips to the site, however, many things have fallen through. For these reasons, we stopped the Haiti Hospital Project. Embrace Relief announces it is giving the rights of the facility back to the Municipality of Croix des Bouquets.

Birthday Donations

Happy Birthday from everyone at Embrace Relief! On this special day, you may feel like you would rather give than receive. In recent years, more and more people have been asking for friends and loved ones to make charitable donations in lieu of presents. If you want to encourage those around you to make the world a better place in your honor, please consider setting up an Embrace Relief fundraiser on your Facebook page. Since it is your birthday, everyone will be looking at your profile to give you their birthday wishes. While they are there, you might want to ask them to a worthy cause. Here is how you do that:
  1. Click Fundraisers in the left menu of your News Feed.
  2. Click Raise Money.
  3. Select Nonprofit/Charity.
  4. Select Embrace Relief, choose a cover photo and fill in the fundraiser details.
  5. Click Create.
Make the most out of your birthday by helping those in need. Today is the day where we celebrate how great you are, and nothing will make you feel better than the knowledge that you changed the lives of people around the world. Use this birthday to show everyone the caring person that you are.

Qurban 2018 Distribution

Embrace Relief’s 2018 Qurban campaign was yet another success. Thousands of people across the globe were distributed packages of meat – an essential source of protein which some of these people sadly cannot afford to buy throughout the year. According to the World Health Organization, there are 153 million children suffering from growth deficiency in developing countries. Meat and animal products are necessary for children in order to grow properly because of the protein, minerals, and vitamins they contain. As part of our Hunger Relief program, Embrace Relief administers qurban organizations in up to 40 countries every year and help you easily reach out to people in need across the globe. Every donation you make translates into meat for about ten families and bring joy to tables. This year, Embrace Relief distributed qurban meat to more than 24,000 families in four continents, thanks to your generosity! From the Philippines to Yemen where famine is rampant, to refugee families in Greece and low-income neighborhoods in the United States, ER volunteers worked for days to prepare and take meat packages to the houses of people in need.  We thank all our dedicated donors and volunteers for yet another successful campaign year!
