Future Stars : Providing Healthcare to Vulnerable Children in Tanzania
It’s tough enough being an orphan or growing up in an impoverished household. Right from the get-go, such children find themselves at a disadvantage in life through no fault of their own. For that very reason, Embrace Relief already supports orphanages in Tanzania so children who have lost both their homes and parents have shelter, food, hygienic products, and an education on a daily basis.
But that’s not all orphans and underprivileged children need to get a foothold on life. Health insurance is of utmost importance to protect against any unexpected, highly expensive medical services and costs due to serious accidents or illnesses. It also significantly reduces child mortality. Unfortunately, however, underprivileged children’s families can’t afford this necessity, which costs $25USD per year per child. Therefore, Embrace Relief has partnered with ISHIK Medical and Education Foundation to help provide healthcare to 3,000 children in both orphanages and poor households in Tanzania, Africa. Embrace Relief’s specific goal is to fund 180 children in Kigamboni Amani Orphanage, Alzam Orphanage, and Hiari Orphanage (60 children per orphanage).
The NHIF’s Benefits Package
ISHIK Medical and Education Foundation and Embrace Relief have enlisted The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for the underprivileged children. NHIF offers a comprehensive benefits package to its beneficiaries through accredited health facilities countrywide. The package includes 11 benefits: consultations, medicines and medical supplies, investigations and diagnostic tests (including ultrasound, echocardiography, CT-scan, MRI and ultrasound), surgical services (including minor, major and specialized surgical services performed from health centers to referral level hospitals), inpatient care services (including ICU and HDU), physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, eye and optical services, spectacles, dental and oral health services (including dental conservation surgeries, gum diseases, dental extractions, root canal treatment, orthodontics and denture), retirees health benefits, and medical/orthopedic appliances (including white cane for blind people, neck and thoracic spine collars, hearing aids, lumbar cossets and braces, walking crutches, and leg orthopedic support).

School Supplies Fundraising for Refugee Children in Greece
We aim to support the refugee children who are forced to leave their country and help them to regain their educational rights.
Your involvement makes a huge difference to provide school supplies we will provide to students in need including educational kits for different aged kids, online materials, laptops, and sometimes most importantly toys.
Refugee children need materials year round, they do not have structured school semesters.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to support 250 students by April 1, 2021.
A NEW LIFE
We are excited to announce that the Pacifica Foundation-Seattle was able to raise over $7,700 to sponsor cataract patients and provide 1,155 health check-ups in Mali, Africa!
They raised their funds through their community. Their donors are members of the Hizmet Movement and their local community in Seattle. They promoted their group FUNdraiser via whatsapp, word of mouth, and in person interaction.
For them, it wasn’t very challenging to reach their FUNdraising goal. They just had a little bit of hard time raising awareness of the issue they were trying to fundraise, which is the prevalence of cataracts disease. Despite that challenge, that didn’t hinder them to finish their goal and they always had in mind the number of people they’ll be able to help.
They felt so happy and great about being able to help people in need when they successfully completed their group FUNdraising project. They felt so fulfilled when they saw the photos of the cataract patients they have helped!
The New York for Vision
We are a group of volunteers of Youth Island New York.
Youth Island New York was established in 2017 by a group of college students as a non-profit organization to support middle school, high school and college students spiritually, socially and academically.
Through our long-term activities, we strive to create an environment where students can practice their beliefs and culture, have a successful transition from middle school to college, and resist in American society as unique individuals.
We rise by lifting others.
Through our community service programs we provide volunteer-ships both in the United States and overseas for high school and college students to give them opportunity to get into the community, be part of, and have a true understanding of it.
As Youth Island New York volunteers under The New York for Vision Cataract Surgery Project, we aim to provide the gifts of cataract surgeries for the people in extreme poverty in Mali in 2021.
Cataract surgeries only take 1 hour, but in that one hour the life of a person changes. In Mali, the cost of operation for one cataract surgery is about $120 USD per eye.
The problem is, the average household income is less than $3 dollars per day and as such most patients who are in need of a treatment aren’t able to even get the most standard level of medical treatment necessary.
CATARACTS
It is a medical condition in which the lens of the eye becomes progressively opaque, resulting in blurred vision.
Most cataracts develop slowly over the course of years.The main symptom is blurry vision. Having cataracts can be like looking through a cloudy window. When a cataract interferes with someone’s usual activities, the cloudy lens can be replaced with a clear, artificial lens. This is generally a safe, outpatient procedure.
Most blindness is preventable
Did you know that over 75% of the 2.2 billion blind or visually impared people around the world have preventable or treatable conditions?
That’s over 1.6 billion people who could have sight if they had access to quality eye care — a number equivalent to the population of the United States and all of Africa combined.
Tragically, nearly 90% of those with preventable or treatable vision conditions live in resource-scarce communities around the world, where access to eye care is limited by location or expense. Even worse:
The World Health Organization predicts the number of blind people worldwide to triple by 2050.
Cataracts in Mali
Approximately 600 000 Africans become blind from cataract each year.
Despite the enormity of the problem, few cataract operations are performed in Africa. The cataract surgery rate (CSR), a measure of the volume of cataract surgery performed in a population, is about 500 per million per year in Africa.

Water Well for Well Water
Despite the fundamental role of water for human health, survival, and development, every one out of ten people does not have access to clean water today. 748 million people worldwide do not have access to adequate sanitation, and every minute a child dies from a water-related disease.
The emergency solution adopted by Embrace Relief is installing water wells with hand pumps in regions with little or no access to drinking water. In most of the countries with no permanent fresh surface water, it is possible to provide access to clean water by utilizing underground water resources.
