Giving Tuesday for a Better Winter

As we are close to the end of November, the holiday season is not that far away now. Before we know it, we will be searching for the perfect gifts for our loved ones whether in-store or online. However, there are thousands of refugees living in Greece that wish they could be doing the same thing, and have to instead fight to survive the upcoming winter. Many of these refugees do not have a warm, safe place to live or even enough food to get by. But all of this can be changed with Facebook’s #GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to helping those in need and spreading holiday cheer around the world. December, 3rd 2019 is the day this takes place, coming back after a massive success last year. Facebook can take up to $7 million in donations throughout this day, and it only took 50 seconds last year to reach the goal! All donations that are collected on #GivingTuesday by us will go directly towards relief for refugees in Greece. Your donations will help them get through the winter through hot meals and safe housing. In addition, it’ll give them a vision of hope for the future, something that is often hard to come by. If you are planning on making a donation, the best thing to do is to prepare in advance for the rush by having your credit card ready to go on your Facebook account, and it can be done in under your payment settings on the website. To get ahead of the rush, we encourage you to make a donation as little as $1 before December 3rd, so all of your credentials will be ready and your donation can be matched. On the 3rd, go all out on how much you want to donate, with a limit of up to $20,000. Remember, it’s first-come-first-served until Facebook hits the $7 million mark! Down below is a step by step guide showing how you can quickly donate. Facebook only does this once a year, and it’s first come first served! It’s an opportunity to help others that you definitely do not want to miss!

Secure the Future: Vocational Training in Tanzania

Secure the Future, a student-led organization at Central Jersey College Prep Charter School, aims to help those in need around the world. This year, the goal of these students is to partner with Embrace Relief to help build a classroom and a dormitory for sheltered orphans and other neglected children in Tanzania. Embrace Relief works with the Dogodogo Center to promote literacy and train orphans for careers that will help better themselves and build a better society. Without proper opportunities, these orphans are not given the chance to attend school. This opportunity will allow these children to learn the necessary skills to grow and find a profession that will help them and others. The center prepares students for professions such as carpentering, tailoring, electrical engineering, fire-fighting and other productive careers to support self-sufficient members of society.

Today, Tanzania ranks as the 154th country in development, and the average years of schooling are 5.8 years, approximately 3 years less than the expected years of schooling in this country. Compared to more developed countries such as the United States, which ranks as the 13th country in development, the average student receives 13.4 years of schooling, more than double the number of schooling students in Tanzania receive.

Please help these children grow into confident, independent adults by making a donation. An investment in these children’s future is an investment in Tanzania’s future.

Mwambo Library Project

People say that the youth is the hope of our future. But, how can we possibly create a future for our children if we don’t help them grow and develop as individuals who can think freely and form their own opinions?

This winter, a group of 11th-grade students are coming together from different schools to fundraise for and restore the Mwambao Primary School’s library located in Bagamoyo, Tanzania. We will after fundraising, we will travel to Bagamoyo to restore the library ourselves. “Why a library,” you ask? Without libraries, we have no past and no future. Different studies have revealed that to nurture reading habits in children, they must be exposed to it early in life.. Since access to books and literature is very scarce, the only place where children can be guaranteed with the opportunity to read is at school.

As a group of 11th graders from New Jersey, we want to take action and make a difference. We want to create an impactful project to help people in need, focusing on children. Children are one-third of our population, however, they are 100% of our future. Brightness and wisdom come from reading – this is why everyone should have access to a library. We have taken it upon ourselves to resolve this issue. With the help of Embrace Relief, we want to renovate a library and provide resources such as books, desks, and chairs to help kids learn how to read, help the overall economy, and increase the literacy rates in Tanzania.

The Mwambao Primary School consists of 705 students and the library has a maximum capacity of 20 people. Furthermore, the library contains a low number of books and furniture. It is a displeasing environment that makes children less enthusiastic to enter to read and learn.

Our main goals are to improve the environmental issues, make the library more welcoming, improve the standards of teaching and learning, and to benefit the general community. This library will be a place for pupils to spend their leisure time reading stories, playing games, and watch audiovisual materials. In the environment of Bagamoyo, where reading culture is very low, this type of project is very important for the education and social wellbeing of students and the community.

Want to join us in making a difference? We’re raising money in partnership with Embrace Relief to build this free public library in Tanzania, and any donation will help make an impact. We ask you to join us in educating the youth of the world. Today’s reader is tomorrow’s leader! Donate today and contribute to the construction of a free public library in Tanzania, because we believe everyone should have the right to read.

Columbus Refugee Relief Fund

Every day, the refugee crisis happening around the world becomes more and more dire. Thousands of refugees are seeking asylum, specifically Turkish refugees fleeing to Greece to seek safety and refuge. These refugees flee from violence, war, political, and religious persecution. They have no choice but to uproot their lives and relocate in hopes of finding a better life and future for their children and family. These refugees are in critical need of assistance and help to learn a completely new way of life in order to not only survive, but to also thrive.

Right now, there are thousands of displaced families fleeing from Turkey to Greece. Upon arrival, they are put into refugee camps for a few weeks. After this, they often displaced again with nowhere to go. The thought of not having a place to call “home” breaks their hearts, as it does ours. Together with our partner Turkish American Society of Ohio-Columbus (TASO), Embrace Relief is calling upon those who have a humanitarian spirit to help provide emergency housing. This housing is often temporary because the refugees flee to other European countries.

The number of displaced refugee families rises every single day and is expected to increase in the coming months. Refugees arrive in Greece with nothing and face the daunting task of finding a place to stay. Furthermore, available jobs are scarce and often impossible to come by, so it is difficult for families to save money or gain capital.

Due to the gracious donors and volunteers, we are able to provide emergency housing, food, healthcare, financial, psychological, and legal support to those who need it most. We now offer English courses to these Turkish refugees through our English Language Conversational Partnerships program. Many want to learn English because it is a prominent language in Europe and around the world, just in case they want or have to migrate to a different country.

Refugees & Winter

Love it or hate it, winter is right around the corner. Pretty soon, we will be dealing with the cold winds, chilly nights, and snow once again. When this time of year strikes, we all have the intention to stay inside a place that’s warm and have hot meals ready to be eaten. Unfortunately, refugees that are in Greece do not have the same luxuries we have, which makes the season even more difficult for them. Refugees currently living in Greece are often forced to brave the winter months in camps, with most of them being overcrowded and not having enough food to eat. This leaves many to struggle during the long cold months.  Luckily, through Embrace Reliefs “Greece Refugee Relief Campaign”, you can help support this vulnerable population as winter closes in. With a donation, you can provide refugees with much-needed essentials for the season. One of these essentials is warm, safe emergency housing, no one should be forced to live outside in the freezing temperatures, and it can become a health risk. The other essential to have is a hot meal, not just in general but also due to the fact that the holidays are close by. We want everyone to have the warm and fuzzy feeling of the holiday season no matter where they are in the world. Furthermore, Embrace Relief will offer legal and psychological support during this stressful time to those that need it. Refugees need our help more than ever, and you can help out by Clicking Here
Youth Island 2019 Program

Youth Island 2019 Summer International Trip

In 2019, Youth Island of New York raised money to complete three projects in Uganda. The group ran a meat drive and were able to donate 210 meat packages to families and orphanages in the cities and surrounding villages. Second, they raised over $16,000 USD which helped them cover the cost of 2,224 people to get health checkups, 40 people to get cataract surgeries, and donated $9,100 to a medical camp. Lastly, ran food and gift drives for two orphanages and one school. At the first orphanage they donated clothes, toys, candy, $140 for food expenses, and 50 kg of meat. At the second orphanage, which had 60 visually impaired children, they covered their dinner expenses and donated gifts and toys. They donated toys and clothing to 650 students at the Career High School.
